Audio Systems: Camaro Delco Cdplayer/radio, chevy dealer, deck unit

Question
I have a 97 Camaro which came with the GM installed Delco Cdplayer/radio.  I had a cd stuck in it and my stepson said he could get it out. I searched on the internet on how to do it and everyone said to use a paperclip etc.  Well, he decided to take the whole unit out,he then pried the metal bars apart and got the cd out. The Cd playerseems locked now. i.e. the display shows a cd in the player even though there no longer is.  Does it need to be reset or something.  Went to a chevy dealer thinking that maybe the anti-theft lock was activated by him taking out the unit, but they said it wasnt, that it would cost me 300 bux to get it fixed.  Would appreciate any help you can offer...........I bought the car in January and it was in excellent condition, with very low miles on it.......so I dont think that the time has come to replace the Cd player.

Thanx again for any info

Answer
Corinna,
Prying on the CD deck wasn't a good thing to do! it may have turned a very minor repair into an expensive repair! I repair many of these automobile CD players that someone had pried on the mechanics to remove their stuck CD, in many cases the CD deck unit was damaged beyond repair and had to be replaced. You may want to remove the CD stereo and take it to a repair shop that repairs factory CD stereos and have them take a look at it. You may luck out, only a few small parts may be damaged that need to be replaced and not the complete CD assembly. The dealer most likely assumed that the CD deck was toast due to being pried on and quoted you the average cost of having a new CD deck assembly installed into the stereo unit.
