Audio Systems: left side speakers lost sound (but not blown), kicker amp, rca cables

Question
Hi Jerry-
I have a 1971 buick riviera with a kicker amp and two custom
kickpanels. I've suddenly lost sound in the left side speakers--
both tweeter and midrange. The speakers on the right kickpanel
as well as the sub still put out full sound. I don't think the left
side speakers are blown--they're not putting out fuzz or any low
level volume. Any idea what I can do?

Answer

Jason,
Presuming this is a 'basic three/four channel, one amplifier' system with no equalizer or other signal processors:

First:
Check your head units' balance/fader settings.

Secondly:
Check the line-level RCA jacks by swapping them at the amplifiers' inputs.
If the left side then starts working, the left channel may have came loose from the head unit or you will need to repair or replace the RCA cables.
This test can also easily let you know if the left channel speaker wiring is ok or not.

If doing this makes no difference, it may be any component 'north' of the amplifier (towards the head unit).

If you have more than one amp between the head and the speakers, please specify exactly what your system layout is and I can think more on this.

Sincerely,
Jerry Mael
