Audio Systems: Removing Alpine stereo from totaled car, alpine stereo, salvage yard

Question
Hello, My car has been totaled and we have been told we need to remove the stereo ASAP if we intend to keep it (before the car is moved to the salvage yard). The stereo is an Alpine we had installed by Circuit City. I know that there was some kind of harness/adaptor installed as well. I'm not so worried about the car wiring but could you give me advice on removing the stereo so that I don't damage it? Thanks. The car is a Saturn 96 SL2.

Answer
Shawnee,
You will need to remove the dash trim to gain access to the stereo mounting. Depending on the stereo you may need the din tools to release the lock tabs on the sides of the stereo. The stereo might also be installed into a plastic dash mounting kit that you can remove along with the stereo.
