Audio Systems: Can you confirm that this ISNT a car stereo problem?, educated guess, switch problem

Question
Hi,
I installed a JVC stereo into my 97 Passat, using a wire harness, and using the VW speakers temporarily. It worked fine. Once i got the parts to install my eq, speakers, and amp i removed the JVC. Now when i try to reinstall it, the stereo will only work when the ignition is in a middle position. If i turn the key to just before the point of starting the car, the stereo will power off on me. Also, the "open door" alarm will only sound when the ignition is in this middle position as well. This leads me to believe that this is an ignition switch problem and not a stereo problem. Do you agree? Have you come across this type of problem before? Any idea what i could have done wrong? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!

Chris

Answer
Chris,

from what you have said it doesnt seem direclty related to your stereo, i get alot of questions about problems such as this with ignition/turn on problems usually companied by some other on-board problems like door chimes, power windows, ect.. i would start with the best educated guess which is the ignition switch after you test this and possibly replace if the problem still persist you move to the next possibilty but i would say from how you described the problem its either in the switch or in the main wiring for the switch and some of the accessories .. hope this helps you out if you need anything else let me know

thanks
