Audio Systems: Radio Removal in 93 Honda Civic 4Dr, car stereo store, sony cdx

Question
I am trying to remove an aftermarket really old Sony cassette and radio player that someone put in this car a long time ago. How do i remove this non-factory installed radio. I unscrewed the center panel under the radio where the cigarette lighter and change bin are and i unscrewed the two screws under the radio but it won't budge. It feels as if there are screws in the front behind the dash or i have to remove the dash or something? i have no clue. Also i am then trying to install a sony cdx-l550x unit in there. Is there a place where i can get a wiring diagram? or an install guide. The radio looks as if it will fit the slot where the radio is now perfectly. i don't think i need an install kit as there may be one in there already. Thanks alot! How do i remove it.

Answer
Paul,
When you say really old Sony, how old are you talking. You may not need a new sleeve that holds the radio into place. On some DIN sise stereos you will need the two flat metal release tools to unlock the stereo from the sleeve. I have found on some older stereos that the person installing the stereo had used some kind of rubber caulk to glue the stereo into place. If you see a small slot on each side of the stereo still in the dash, then you can try finding the unlock tools at Radio Shack or any other good car stereo store.
