Audio Systems: Toyota car Radio - anti-theft, toyota camry v6, radio mechanic

Question
Hi Tom, I have a factory-fitted radio in my 1996 Toyota Camry V6 GS (radio number 13704 RDS). Everything was OK until we disconnected the car battery. Now a "key" icon has appeared and display says "HELP". Radio is inactive. Seems to be an anti-theft system.

Any idea how I can fix it? I belive my code number is 2936 but I can't find out how to enter it. I have no manual for the radio. (Mechanic at dealer wants me to book car in to garage - but surely this is not necessary?)

Answer
Mark,
Do not try to enter the unlock code until you have the procedure, if you do, and you enter it incorrectly 3 times in a row the memory chip will be flashed(emptied)and your stereo will have to be reprogrammed. Call some other dealers and ask if they can find a copy of the owners manual for you vehicle. When you call Toyota dealers, ask for the service mngr, they will normally be more helpful than the person behind the service counters.
