Audio Systems: No sound from stereo speakers, internal amplifier, stereo speakers

Question
I recently stored my Aiwa mini CD/Cassette player while I was redecorating. When I came to set it up again i am now getting no sound through the speakers (everything else works OK and I can get sound thru the headphones). Could I have attached the red/black speaker wires incorrectly and caused some damage ?

Answer
Dear Bob,

All connecting the wires backward would do is reverse the polarity and put the speakers out of phase. However, if the wires are touching in any way, you could have (1) blown the unit's internal fuses, or (2) blown the drivers in the speakers.

I suggest that you find another pair of speakers and try them with your unit. If they work, then the problem's with your speakers. If they don't, the problem's most likely with the power output section of the unit's internal amplifier, which could be as simple as replacing a fuse. However, if it turns out to be the latter, I suggest having a qualified repair service give it a look-see.

Good luck. And thanks for choosing allexperts.com!
