Audio Systems: 87 Volvo Radio, volvo radio, volvo 745

1987 Volvo 745 Gl AM/FM radio started acting erratic and with increasing crequency, sound just stopped and after a while it would come back on.  Orignially, when this problem started, it would take a couple of miles for the radio to come on.  The problem has grown progressively worse until there is no sound at all only static and the radio will only show tuning to one station even thought other buttons are pushed and currently there is no sound other than static.  Is this something I should / can fix or just replace the unit; and where can I get an aftermarket basic unit (AM/FM and don't even need casette)?

The problem may be due to a defective solder connection in the tuner assembly. If you disassemble the stereo and use an X10 magnifier you may be able to see the defective connections inside the tuner module. You might be able to install an after market stereo with ease if you can locate an adapter that will connect to the factory stereo connector in the dash and then connect to the after market stereo.
