Audio Systems: Distorted Pre-amp Outputs, alpine cda 9827, factory speakers

Question
Hello,

I purchased an alpine CDA-9827 deck a couple weeks ago. I am running the factory speakers off the headunit and using the subw out to control my sub amp. Everything was fine in this configuration for 2 weeks, then I added an alpine ERE-G190 eq. and it worked fine for a few minutes. I buttoned everything back up and went to do final test and my subs sounded horrible. They lacked power, punch and clarity. I checked the amp, even replaced it, and same result. I noticed that if I unplug either the left or right rca cable, the system sounds normal. But as soon as I connect both the left and right cables, the system distorts? I tried removing the eq, didn't work. I traced the problem back to the head unit. Again, if I plug only the left or right preamp output in it's fine, but as soon as both are used the system distorts....any help would be appreciated as I'm thinking of exchanging the head unit.

Answer
Jaime,

swap out head units, since the unit is new its covered under alpine warranty and maybe even store warranty so you can just go pick up a new one, its really hard to tie down what caused the preouts to blow on the HU, but it obviously occured when you hooked up the EQ,more than likly the EQ gave some feedback that hit the preouts on the head unit,  so after you get the new unit installed quadurple check all your connections to make sure everything is compatable before you do the final wire in... hope this helps out if you need anything else let me know

thanks
