Audio Systems: DVD Player, cadillac seville sts, 1996 cadillac seville sts

Question
Hi, my name is Mir Ali. I'm an illiterate when it comes to this stuff, so please bare with me. I was just wondering if you can explain to me how I can install a DVD player in my car (1996 Cadillac Seville STS) while keeping my factory head unit and a Kenwood 10-disc changer. I was thinking about getting the Blaupunkt DVD-ME3 along with some screens (but those are for later). However, I wanted to do this installation myself. Therefore, I was wondering if you can please give me step-by-step instructions on going about to do this. I need you to please start from the beginning (i.e. taking out the stereo, etc.), since I am a complete newbie. Thank you very much.

Answer
Mir,

big request .. now if you had said you were going aftermarket i could have gave a simple do and dont and what to get and what to do .. but a factory system complicates things ! , i dont even recommend adding anything to a stock stereo unless you are super qualified because stock wiring is a pain especially when you mend stock with aftermarket .. here is my suggestion , replace the head unit with a DVD flip up screen/player they are expensive starting at 500.00 and moving up but you know where the extra money went plus they look really trick in the dash .. you can still use your changer with the DVD flip up unit *follow manufactors specs for hooking that up very simple* and you can add other screens later on .. this is the easiest way all you need is a wire harness adapter and maybe a dash install kit *which has full instructions of the removal of the dash panels to install/remove the stock and new units* ... now if this is not the way you want to go that is fine but i wouldnt advise diving into the factory setup unless you have a very good liabary of OEM help books and schematics .. i would recommend *if you dont want to use a flip out* stop by a qualified install shop you can get an estimate *usually free* and then move from there on how you want to approach things .. i understand wanting to do it yourself .. and if your like me i hate to have somebody else do something that i know i could have done .. but for a newbie this is a good chunk to bite off ... here is a website that i order all of my electronics from you can check out the price of the indash DVD screens www.etronics.com .. hope this helps you out i will be glad to help you any other way i can just let me know

thanks
