Audio Systems: 98 Pathfinder Bose Radio rear speaker problem, volt meter, rear speakers

Question
I have a 1998 nissan pathfinder with a Bose Factory Radio. My problem is that my rear speakers just stopped working. I get sound out of my front speakers and the head unit functions properly. I removed the head unit to verify that the wiring was okay and it was but I can't figure out why both rear speakers stopped working. I know Bose speakers have their own amps but I don't know whether the problem is the rear speakers, the rear amplifiers or the head unit. Any help or advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hello Walt,
I would say that the cause of both rear speakers stopped working is due to a loss of 12 volt supply to both amplifiers. If you have a volt meter measure the plug on the amp units for 12 volts. In each plug you will find four wires, two for 12 volt and groung and two for speaker connection. If you do not have 12 volts to each connector you will need to trace these wires up to the front to locate the defective connection/s. It is also possible that the head unit outputs for the rear channels has failed.
