I have a question,

I have a 1969 VW Karmann Ghia,  I have installed two (2) rockford punch 300W amps and a BassLink self powered subwoofer.

The car has been fitted with an alternator over the stock DC generator it normally has.  The system goes as follows:

From the battery to a main 60A fuse holder,  into the 1F capacitor, then into a 4 fuse distribution block and out to each amplifier.  Each amp is fused.

The two rockford amps are grounded with the Capacitor via a grounding block and to the chassis.  The BassLink is grounded back to the battery.

After running the system,  I discovered that the battery drained conciderably even when the engine is running.  It was to a point where the deck would turn off when I applied the brakes.

I've seen larger installs done on similar cars, but why is mine draining as fast as it is?

Please help  Please reply to both of my Email addresses.

Thanks.

what is the amp rating on the alternator at idle, and at 2500 rpm? Also is the alternator working 100%

found that the alternator capacity is 51 Amps. my question is, what is the amp draw of my system?

I have 2 Rockford fosgate 300x Watt and a Infinity Bass Link 200w watt

each rockford is fused at 30 and the bass link is fused at 20 totalling 80amp but i have it fused at the main at 60. could i go lower at the main?
If so, How low can i go? with a 51amp alternator?

Answer
you should be drawing 66.6 amps at max output, less at lower volume levels. There are other things that will draw amps as well, the headlights and etc. The alternator needs to be upgraded if possible. Lowering the fuse up front will not remedy anything. It will only blow at loud volumes.
