Audio Systems: car radio, car antenna, pioneer stereo

Question
I purchased a 1985 Mercedes 300 three years ago. It came with an aftermarket Pioneer stereo system that has a 2" x 5" pusbutton face on the dash that pops out. Most of the system - two big heavy amplifer devices is mounted in the trunk. The system worked beautifully until about a month ago when I took the car out of a one year garage storage. Now only AM seems to work and at times it is weak. I cannot get anything from the FM channels - there's some chatter, but it's very week. It's such a commplicated set up (to me) that I don't know where to begin. Could it simply be an antenna problem? Any suggestions as to what I might look at would be appreciated. Thanks -

Answer
Hello George,
The problem may be with the antenna. Try this tip, purchase a cheap car antenna from Walmart. unplug the existing antenna from the radio and plug in the test antenna. Hold the antenna by the mount and outside the window to see if the radio will now receive stations. If this doesn't work you will need to have the stereo looked at/tested to see if it is OK.
