Audio Systems: Short in power supply, Dodge Cararvan, pioneer cd player, battery terminals

Question
We bought a 01 Caravan that had a Pioneer CD Player in it and the fuse for the radio was blown.  It looks like all that was used is a plug in adapter to the original wiring harness.  There is apparently a short somewhere because it blows a new fuse immediately, even with the radio unplugged.  The fuse slot is labeled "RDO/IP IGN".  I'm trying to figure out what else to check.  The instrument panel seems to be working fine, if that is what IP stands for.  Any ideas?
Thanks,
Adam

Answer
Adam,

yeah in most cases IP is the instrument cluster... pull the unit out and make sure all the wires on the adapter harness are spliced nice and tightly if you need to or want to rewire then and rewrap them with electrical tape then replace the fuse with a size larger such as if it has a 10 try a 15 or 20 amp ect.. but dont go above one size.. also try cleaning your battery terminals just as a precaution it wont hurt anything.. if none of these things pan out .. a short that is on the "main harness" side is fairly rare i have seen it very few times working with stereos.. if it is on the main harness side your best off to take it to a repair shop or a stereo install shop and have them run some troubleshooting test to track down where the problem is.. hope this helps you out if you need anything else just let me know

thanks
