My back left speaker (Bose 109638P) on my '92 Nissan 300ZXis making a sqealing noise so I figured that I needed a new speaker.  I called Bose and they told me that it was the entire speaker and amp piece since it was making a squealing noise.  They asked me to remove from the car (big hassle to get to it) and mail it to them so they can repair it.  This seems like a lot of work and time for a speaker problem.  I was wondering if you thought this solution sounded legitimate?  Do I have any other local alternatives (I live in S. California ) such as repair or possibly a junkyard?  I am low on cash so any help you can offer would be appreciated....

Brad,

you should pocket your money and save on sending the whole unit to bose , if worse comes to worst you can just rip the entire bose system and put back aftermarket .. the squeal doenst seem like it would be a problem for the whole system the first thing i would try is new speaker check crutchfield.com for the exact fit and type and then you can shop around for a cheaper price i use etronics.com for all my orders .. try this and from my experience it should fix the problem but i'm not a bose expert but it doesnt sound very logical to me that the entire system would be at fault ... if you need anything else just let me know

thanks

First of all, thanks for your answer.  Just a quick follow-up....according to Bose there is an amplifier (sp?) with each speaker and it is this that they think is causing the squeal?

Answer
Brad,

a seperate amp for each speaker .. that would make the system top off at over 1-2K or better , i have never heard of a company using a small amp for every speaker the most common setup is one central amp that powers all speakers .. i have seen up to 2 amps in factory amp'd systems but you are talking about atleast 6 seperate amps for the speakers that personally i have never heard of but like i said before i'm not a bose expert .. i would try swaping the speaker before i done a rip out to send to bose and call back to get a second opinion also just so you can make sure that you didnt just get an idiot at the center ..

thanks
