Audio Systems: Acura Integra Radio, acura dealer, acura integra

Question
My daughter has a 1997 Acura Integra that she bought used.  It came without any of the owners manuals.  The battery was just replaced and now she needs a code to unlock the radio.  She called her local Acura dealer and they told her she needs to give them the serial number on the back of the radio.  So I have two questions:
1.  Is there a way to unlock the radio without having to pay the dealer to do it?
2.  If the radio must be removed to get the serial number, what is the removal procedure?

Answer
Hello Bob,
Unfortunately you will have to remove the radio to find the serial number and the model number. The dealer will need these to lookup the unlock codes. You may also want to search on the internet for a site call Radio Codes, They charge a fee for the codes but they are still lower then the dealer charges. Try pulling out the radio, I have found that sometimes the codes will be written on the radio by whoever repaired the radio last. To remove the radio you may see screws holding the trim on, if not the trim will snap away from the dash.
