No, I used to have an amp for the 6x9s, but I disconnected it. And yes, there is a factory amp under the passenger seat. I haven't checked yet, but I don't believe it has been bypassed yet and someday I'm planning on doing that.

Thanks for all the help!

I have an '89 ford probe and I'm having some major problems with my wiring and my speakers. I recently decided to disconnect my rear speakers. In doing this, I extended that wire to connect new infinity 6x9s. Also, I made the mistake of messing with the wire harness going to my eclipse head unit and I had to figure out where all thos wires connected to again (I believe I have them correct now though). Anyway, here's my problem: when the car is on along with the radio, I get a lot of whining from the engine noise (I'm used to this, as it has done this since I've owned it). Here's the new problem I'm having though: when my car accelereates, the noise gets more and more high pitched until finally all 4 speakes start making really loud noises (It sounds a lot like someone blowing into a microphone, and it's really loud). The noises are uncontrollable by the volume button and I have to vigourously hit the power button to try to turn the head unit off. I've noticed a few other things that might be triggering it. When I try to play a CD, the loud noise happens sooner, and also if I hold the brake in, the noise stops (until I let the brake out). So basically, I've tried a lot of things to try to locate the problem. I am wondering if you have any other suggestions. Thanks a lot!

Hello Daniel,
It sounds like you have a wiring problem. One question, Are you using an amplifier between the radio and the speakers? By far the best solution is to go over all the wires and check the power connections and the grounds. Also does this vehicle have a factory installed amp located near the original speakers?

Daniel,
Most likely the noise is comming from the factory amp. On many amps some of the on board capacitors will fail and this will cause all kinds of strange noises. But with the noise stopping when you press on the brake pedal, I would say that you have some power or ground wires crossed somehow? You should look over the Eclispe wiring to be sure everything is connected correctly. If the Eclispe unit has built in amps and you have connected to the wires going to the factory amp you may have a feedback problem that is causing the noise!

Answer
Hello again Daniel,
By far the best thing to do if you already have replaced the head unit and the speakers, is to run all seperate speaker wires to each new speaker. Next unplug or completely remove the factory amp if your system isn't connected to the factory amp. If you do not want to run all new speaker wires, you can use the existing wires. To use the existing wires and bypass the factory amp you will need the wiring diagrams for your automobile. Most large auto parts outlets should have a book for your auto.
