Audio Systems: balance, custom autosound, 68 firebird

Question
hi,my stereo from custum autosound was expensive for my 68 firebird..they recommended i bring it to a professional, but i didn't because i've put in afew in my time....ok i found a power wire and i connected the power and the memory line to it,the ground i grounded to the steel dash,i just put in two speakers..the stereo obviosly has front and rear setups.they are marked nicely ....+ -..ok...my problem is with the 2 speakers connected to either front or rear...i only receive the right speaker sound...i tried to connect all front and rear to the l - r speakers at once and the same thing- sound out of both but one side of stereo...rt. i think.....is it the ground  or my spkr. connections?   help,i'm frekin, out.....i was trying to avoid calling custom autosound because i thought they may void the warranty due to my negligence......help me....please ...thank you, christian

Answer
Hell Christian,
One of two problems I can think of to start. 1-the balance control may be on one side? 2-the speaker wire for the side that doesn't work may have been accidently grounded which burned up the amp IC for that side? On a high powered stereo the speaker wires cannot be grounded to the chassis or the amp IC's will quickly burn up! also the + and -'s cannot be connected together or the same will occur. Double check all the connections for tightness.
