Nissan Repair: 1997 Nissan hardbody transmission problems, nissan hardbody, air escapes

Question
QUESTION: I recently replaced the clutch and flywheel and when I reassembled everything and ready to test drive I started the engine and the clutch pedal didnot come up off the floor. I have now replaced the slave cylinder and master cylinder. I bled the system to remove the air and there has been no change to the pedal.Any ideas?

ANSWER: Michael,

The system needs to be bled again.  You will have to get someone in the truck to press the pedal to the floor while you open and quickly close the bleeder screw.  Then, with the bleeder screw closed have the person lift the pedal to the top and press it again and repeat the process until the trapped air escapes.  It should work and it does take time.  I have had systems that took over a quart of brake fluid to get the trapped air out and over an hour of bleeding.  If you had a power bleeder or a vacuum bleeder it works much faster.

QUESTION: I have alreday used a quart of fluid and bled and bled and bled and it still will not come up.Any other ideas

Answer
Michael,

If that is the case you need to check to see if the master and slave cylinder are good.  Second, if these are good and you have the lines tight you are going to need power bleed the system or get a vacuum pump to draw the air out.  If the bleeder is open when the pedal is raised it will let air in and that will cause you to start the process all over.
