Audio Systems: STATIC INTERFERENCE IN CAR STEREO, garbage heap, static interference

I have a 1987 Chrysler Lararon (Turbo Coupe) with the stock radio.  I keep getting static noise interference with the radio in all stations.  Problem is that it's intermident and doesn't happen all the time.  Can't seem to get the symptom when the car is parked.  Doesn't do it with car engine off either.  I even pulled the radio out and checked the connects which were all okay.  I do notice that if I tap on the radio, the interference will miss with each tap which tells me something inside the radio.  Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

 i would say its a loose connection in the radio if the radio is the stock 87 unit its more than time for a kick to the garbage heap .. i would go ahead and replace it with an aftermarket unit just make sure you buy a wire harness adapter to make the install easier .. if you are heart set on keeping the unit * and this might not even help* but you can try a distortion blocker you can pick up a radio shack that might help keep the interferrence down .. hope this helps you out if you need anything else let me know
