Audio Systems: wiring up new stereo, liabary, volvo 340

I'm putting a new stereo into an F reg volvo 340 and having problems matching up the wires. The new stereo has a Yellow wire (battery), Red wire (ignition) and a black wire (earth). The old stereo has a green wire, brown wire and a thinner red and black striped wire. Can you please tell me whats what.

  ok it sounds like you have made the first mistake in the install which is cutting the factory plug off .. if you can wire it back on stop by radio shack and buy a wire harness adapter kit for your specfic car its about 10 bucks .. this will match color for color of your new stereo wires and then simply plug back into your factory plug so there is no guess work .. now if you cant wire the old one back on for some reason the only thing i can tell you is to buy a haynes repair manual from your local auto parts store or rent one from a liabary for your volvo this will have a wire schematic that will help you wire everything together .. hope this helps you out if you need anything else let me know
