Audio Systems: Wiring problem??, tiny bulbs, dashboard light

Question
I installed an after-market deck in my 01 Honda Civic. I used the appropriate wiring harness etc. Radio worked fine, but after a few minutes smoke bellowed out from the steering column and my dashboard light shorted out.All gauges work but no backlight. I checked all the fuses under the dash and in the engine compartment and they are all good. What happened? I've installed many after-market decks before and never had a problem. Thanks

Answer
Antonio,

humm its very easy ( even more so if you are experienced) to rush through an install and not pay as much attention i know i'm guilty many times over .. what normally happens is you forget to tape up a connections or forget and cross a wire .. i would go back over all of your connections make sure everything is right especially the ground and power wires .. you should find the problem there if you dont it could be a problem with the headunit it could have an internal short that surged your dash lights and caused the blow out .. to  fix the backlight you will need to pop out the cluster and check the tiny bulbs and pick up a few sets from auto parts store .. hope this helps you out if you need anything else let me know

thanks
