Audio Systems: radio removal, necessary thanks, ford dealer

Question
Hi Tom,

My question is what type of tool is need to remove the stereo from my 2000 ford explorer and where can I purchase locally?  I went to a bose web site bacause I believe my stereo is a bose and on older explorers indicated a "din" removal tool was necessary.

Thanks
John

Answer
Hello John,
Look at the front of your stereo, do you see any holes at the edges? (2 on each side) On some models the trim has to be removed and the radio has a push tab on each side that releases the radio so you can slide it out of the dash. If your radio has the holes in it, you can use 2 ice picks or long drill bits to push in the holes to release the latch clips on the sides so you can pull the radio out of the dash. You may be able to purchase the 2 removal clips from your local Ford dealer. I always use 2 ice picks or 2 drill bits to release one side at a time and then pull the radio out. When you release the clips on one side at a time you will only be able to pull the radio out a little bit until you release the other side.
