Audi Repair: 2002 A4 1.8T Quattro Check engine light, obd 2 scanners, lambda probes

Question
QUESTION: When I start my car in the morning its often cold(30f), after starting the car it does not rev up it just goes to normal idle, then the radiator fan comes on full blast and the check engine light is on. But the car is running fine, no overheating. Is something like a engine coolant switch?

ANSWER: I need more information to diagnose your car, when was the last time the vehicle was serviced?? which country do you live in?? are you using the correct grade of fuel?? is the engine misfiring???

Basically it sounds like you are having a problem with your emission system, the fan sounds like its a different problem all together. when was the last time the lambda probes were replaced?? Audi recommends they be changed every 2 years, they could have become 'lazy', and as they are heat sensitive it could explain why they are causing problems in the cold weather,

have the plugs been replaced??? different plugs have different service intervals, 40,000kms for carbon tip plugs and 60,000kms for platinum tip  ones.

has electrical diagnosis been carried out?? if so what was the result??

basic generic OBD 2 scanners should pickup the fault because the check engine light is coming on which shows an emission control problem.

Also check the vacuum pipes, (especially the one on the inlet manifold, right in the front) they have a habit of cracking which will cause emission and drivability problems,

let me know the results after you have checked the vehicle again,
