Audi Repair: transmission fluid change at 40K service, transmission fluid change, trans fluid

Question
Greg I have 2002 3.0 CVT A4. It has about 60K miles on it. I complained about the transmission not responding like before and some grinding, etc. We ultimately found out that the dealer had forgotten to do the transmission fluid change at the 40K service. I wanted to know what kind of damage has occured on the transmission? Will a late transmission fluid change help? Should I just ask for a new transmission? Will I see the impact of this at higher mileage?
thanks!

Answer
hello
Sorry , it took so long.
I will be very honest with you and tell you that most of CVT trans go bad before 100K . I do not know why , some of them just start loosing gears or vibrate on acceleration. We replaced CVT trans on cars with 20k !!
some people say- trans fluid has to be change , some say not. I talked with trans specialist few times and he always says there is no lifetime fluid , which is opposite what Audi thinks. I own Audi with manual trans and I did fluid change at 50K , My fathers A6 has 105K and I'm about to do it first time - what's going to happen - I do not know but I will do it because this fluid looks like old black motor oil.
So , it's up to you if you want to change it or not . I will do it.
good luck      Greg
