Audi Repair: A4 97 Stalling out issue, ecu chip, issue question

Question
QUESTION: Hi i just bought a used 1997 A4 1.8 and Had an APR EMCS module and a new
ECU chip put in the engine from a company who claims they soldered it in
correctly.

The car Stalled out before and after the new chip was put in. After the
instillation the car had trouble starting up and out of the blue turned over
and ran fine for about 1 month, just recently it stalled out after running and
would not start up again, next day it started up ran about 20 feet and died
again. Ive been told it could be a spark plug issue or a fuel pump
problem....reading about MAF sensors Any input on this guys??

no engine light this time around or code....

ANSWER: Is this a higher performance ECU?  I would take a spark plug out and see how it is running.  The chance that all plugs fail at the same time is pretty small, so I don't think this is a plug issue, but it could be a multitude of reasons.  It would be good if you can determine if the problem is fuel or spark to start narrowing the cause down.

QUESTION:
"Hi me again,

So after further investigation i am led to believe that it might be an issue with the wires connecting to the spark plugs over the air box (i hear they can be problematic) would this cause my above issue with stalling out.

I belive that this is the issue because after stalling out a few more times i have giggled them and it starts back up and i recently disconnected to try and clean them up (dust ect) and the engine light came one....

???wondering if you think that this could be the issue...if a mechanic should be able to easily narrow down what parts should be replaced and if you think the engine light probably just needs to be reset after the parts are replaced. Or can i manually reset the engine light to see if it went on due to me disconnecting the wires.

Thanks again

AM"

Answer
If you have cleaned the connections with contact cleaner, and the car runs much better, then you should be able to re-set the engine light and everything should be fine.  If not, then the components themselves may be the next item to check.  But it sounds like you have narrowed it down to 'spark issue'...!  Let me know,  Jan
