Audi Repair: Audi Allroad Air Spring Suspension, audi allroad, air spring

Question
Hi there,

I have a 2001 Audi Allroad.  I love the car; it has 125k miles and is still rocking.  The front air springs seem to be almost done.  When I leave the car parked for a few hours (especially in the cold), the front drops all the way down.  The notice light comes on the dashboard and begins flashing as the car tries to raise.  I generally have it set on the 2nd lowest setting.  I have the button on the dash set so the organce 'Man' light is on...otherwise it will never raise back up.  When I turn the car on, it takes about 2-3 minutes of 'trying' to  raise, until the notice light goes solid.  At which point, I stop the car, turn the car completely off, let it sit for 5 seconds.  Turn the car back on and make sure it's set to the second lowest height.  At which point the car raises to the correct position and stays there while I'm driving.  During this second raise, the notice light flashes for a 20 seconds and then goes off as the car completes its raise.  Sometimes, while driving the height status lights on the dashboard buttons will show it blinking (lowering one level - the second light starts flashing for a few seconds), but then it catches itself and returns to normal.

How big an issue is this?  And is there a way to buy the air spring part # 4Z7616051D from any aftermarket or alternative venue so we don't have to shell out $600 per spring in the front?

Thanks tons!!!

Answer
hello
I very surprise you went 125K with the same front springs. Looks like you need both front spring and seals.
Seals come as a set for each side , make sure you 2 seal kits. Price -- I think $600 is for both springs... ? Dealer may charge you $600 for each side with labor.
I"am not 100% sure but for 600 you can get a set ( both front bags) at the dealer.
Now, how long this is happening??? . Most of the people drive the car for long time , until the car can't lift itself or it takes long time to do it . 99% of those people do not know, but whey over stress the pump so much, that even with the new springs the car can't lift itself up or is trying to do it for 5-10 min. Pump is worn out by this time. Normal ( a good know pump) has to lift the car to the highest point in about 3 min. If it takes longer - pump is bad. When the pump goes bad , it will run for about 3 min and than shuts off . there is a switch inside which monitors temperature of the pump, if it's stars to overheat - shuts the pump Off until temp. goes down or you shut the car off . Sorry ,but the Pump is  about $1000.
So, you may need the pump also. I know somebody who wants to sell a pump for 500 . We live in NJ
good luck            Greg
