Audi Repair: changing transmission fluid, changing transmission fluid, tranny fluid

1998 a6 quatro 2.8L automatic. Is there a way to check the tranny fluid. Or do you have to drop the pan. And is it  like any other car or any suprises I need to know about. Any help would be appericated

To replace fluid,-- drop the pan and replace filter inside. reinstall the pan - fill trans thru the big plug on the pan. Once it's full start and add 1-2 liters. To check ---   Car has to be running , Trans at 32 deg. C, loosen the big plug in oil pan and see if any fluid comes out. If it is - fluid level is OK, if not -it's too low.
IT HAS TO BE AT 32deg.C. You can check temp. using VAG , go to Trans. value blocks #4 . Make sure you add synthetic fluid only.
