Answer
Hello Miles:

You will need a scan tool to diagnose your airbag problem (and not the one at Auto Zone---dealer or body shop only).  Once you have the code, check out this website.  It's our company website that will explain everything you need to know about airbag systems, airbag lights and resetting the system.  It shows you the location of the components and the procedure for diagnosing and resetting airbag lights after a deployment.  Not all vehicles need everything replaced.  Although  it’s a pay site, it certainly is worth the money ($14.95 for 1 day full access).  You don't need to buy a subscription to get most of the information (it's free), but once you have the code, you may want to.

This is quite a complete website with pictures, descriptions and factory fault code charts as well as a working demo that shows just how easy these repairs can be.

As far as taking the fuse out or worrying about a deployment, don't on either account.  The light on means the system is not operational.  Taking the fuse out will only set another code for no power and add another cost to your bill when they go to fix it.

I hope this all helps.

Good Luck
