Cadillac Repair: right tail light fuses on 1995 cadilac sedan deville, Natfs credibility issues, herbert t miller credibility issues

Question
I HAVE A 1995 CADILAC SEDAN DEVILLE AND I KEEP BLOWING FUSES ON RIGHT TAIL LIGHT AND LICENCES PLATE BUT NOW TODAY IT BURNED THE WIRES UP INTO THE HARNES IN THE TRUNK WHY IS THIS DOING IT NO OTHER FUSES OR BULBS ARE BLOWN

Answer
Hello,

You have a short in the circuit and you need to fix it before you have a serious fire.
Once or twice after the fuse blew, did you put a higher amperage fuse in resulting in the burned wiring? I am not saying you did, but many think this is a cure and it can be costly.

A wiring issue like this would not burn out other fuses or bulbs. This problem is in the tail light circuit, but now is exasterbated by the burned wiring which is now a secondary problem.

What you need to do is consider getting another wiring harness from a junk yard first. Chances of repair are not good because you don't know how far the wiring melted together inside the harness.

Once you disconnect the harness from the connector in the body, make sure you have the correct amperage fuse in.

Turn the lights on and see if the fuse doesn't blow. If it doesn't, you know your problem is in the trunk area. Install your replacement harness.

Make sure there was no rubbing or chafing to ground on the old harness. If so rerout your replacement. Before connecting the harness, remove the bulbs from the right tail light and the bulb from the license plate.

Connect harness and see if fuse blows. If not, take a good look at the right tail light sockets for burning or corrosion.

If none seen in the sockets, put one bulb in at a time waiting to see if the fuse pops. If it does, you have a shorted bulb or a socket. If fuse stays good, do the same on the license plate bulb. Check the sockets and the bulbs. You will find the exact problem this way without starting a fire.

Let me know what happens.

The one issue I have not addressed is if you have trailer wiring. Then there is more to do.
