i have the 4.6 engine in this car the car runs great but a little high idle the thing that bothers me is that the rear manifold gets bright red when it sits to idle. What can be causing this?

I would be very concerned the manifold gets red hot as well. Your high idle could be a symptom of computer or sensor problem. If I were you, I would get the car into a service center now (not a dealer) and have them scan the computer. This is obviously not normal and if that manifold is that hot, you could end up with an engine fire.

The engine sounds like it is running to lean and that bank of the engine is running very hot too. This is an aluminum engine as well and will not stand up to any type of cooling system over heating, nor can it stand up to the type of heat to turn the manifold cherry red.

Let me know what they find. I am curious.
