Answer
Hello,

You did not state the year of the car or if it is a factory or after market anti-theft system.

If equipped with the old factory VATS with the resistor pellet embeded in the ignition key blade, and they said they checked the ignition system and it was not the problem, you need to question just how good they are. On this system, the ignition system is either good or bad as it relates to the factory anti- theft. If the ignition is good, then there is not a problem with the anti-theft.

If after market surely one of these crack dealer techs knows how to turn the system off.

How did they check the ignition to say it was ok?

If in fact it is a factory anti-theft problem that is a bad igntion problem, you sure as heck don't want the replacing a defective ignition lock harness for $500 plus.

A locksmith using the same part for half and if you have it bypassed and install a hidden starter kill that is about $150 from an alarm store.

I also find it strange for you to be driving a Cadillac and asking for "how cheap" for the repair. There is nothing cheap at a dealer and I tell people to avoid them like the plague.
