Cadillac Repair: Front turn signal bulb replacement, fiber optic cable, chiltons manual

Question
QUESTION: Need to replace the front turn signal bulb on a 91 Cadillac DeVille and the 'Chiltons' manual I got says to first 'DISCONNECT THE LAMP MONITOR FIBER OPTIC CABLE".  How do I do this (of course they don't show any pictures or diagrams for any of the steps they list for our car make %26 model)?
Is there a web site that has diagrams/pictures of the different systems in a 91 Cadillac DeVille because this manual I bought doesn't even show the correct configuration of everything under the hood? The pictures they show have everything flip/floped. I am not a total car repair dummy i.e. I changed the alternator in my son's Tempo at X-mas with no problems but I need pictures or diagrams for the first time. From what I have gathered, you have to pull the entire light assembly out the front of the bumper to change a turn signal light bulb OH VEY.
I just don't want to screw anything up...lol
Thank you so much,
Barbara

ANSWER: Hello Barbara,

Chilton manuals are too general (one size fits all-sort of).

If you want the diagrams and detailed instructions for everything you need to know on your 91 Caddy (if they go back that far).

Go to http://www.alldata.com. See if they have the information on the 91. If not, body and electrical is fundamentally the same for 92 and 93. I get nothing for recommending the site, however, the information is awesome and I use it frequently.

If you scroll down the list of applications and you see your car, pay the $25-$30 for a one year subscription. You will download more factory information than you will believe. You have a year to use this info. Additional cars are $14.95 each.

Everything you get is right out of the factory manuals.

Good luck!

QUESTION: Dear Rob,
To remove the lamp assembly to replace the bulb, do I have to "disconnect the lamp monitor fiber optic cable"? Will it mess anything up if I don't disconnect that cable %26 just undo the nut and pull the whole assembly out from the front of the bumper?  I ask cause I don't know how to disconnect that cable nor do I even know what it is....lol
Thanks again.
Barbara

Answer
Hello,

Do not remove, twist or bend fiber optic because you will screw up the monitoring system.

Here is a suggestion--I don' t how difficult it is to replace the bulb because it has been years since I worked on a 91 Caddy, but if easy, I have a suggestion. Go to a parts store chain like auto zone, buy the bulb and most cases they are willing to install for a woman at no charge. My ex always had these minor things done for free.
