Cadillac Repair: how to shut off blower, cadillac seville, costly repair

Question
wher is the blower wire located in my cadillac seville.  blower will not shut off and is draining the batterie.

Answer
Hi Gail,

Unfortunately, you are dealing with a problem Cadillac has had for as far back as 1980 that they never repaired. Sure, components were changed over the years, but the results were the same. At any given time walking through the service area of a dealership, one could find two or three of these cars having the same problem. Very costly repair as well. Instead of using relays and resistors to control speeds, they installed this stuff into a non-servicable epoxied module. You would be lucky to get out of Cadillac spending less than $500.

Depending on the model will depend on the wire location. Many blowers are under the hood, but some are on the passenger side under the dash. If you find the blower and wire, cut the wire. Install an easy to reach toggle switch between both sides of the wire you cut. This way you can turn on and off the blower. You will only have high and off and there are ways to put speeds in it too, but that is quite a bit of work.

Your choices are--either install a switch as described. Have Cadillac gouge your eyeballs out for something that will fail again or get a junk yard resistor module that is doomed to fail if it hasn't already.

If my answer has helped you, please rate it. Thanks.

Good Luck!

Rob
