Cadillac Repair: 90 cadillac eldorado 4.5 V8, cadillac eldorado, faulty computer

Question
came to me with a hole burned thru the top of the
distributor cap. upon removal of the cap I noticed the
rotor also looked burnt. I replaced the cap and rotor also
got new set of wires and replaced coil in top of
distributor cap just to be sure. The vehicle starts on a
turn of the key idles very ruff .You cannot give any gas to
the vehicle it will not except it. it almost acts like it
doesn't understand that the gas pedal is being pushed. Its
also not consistent sometimes it will rev up but you would
think a wire had been crossed. I bought the book and
checked a couple of times. Also the catalytic converter
plugged solid and started to glow. than my daughter tells
me that the car has been running warm not on the temp guage
warm inside the car.I assume the converter had been
plugging up for a couple weeks and got solid as i ran the
vehicle.I have worked on cars for a living but this
Cadillac has me stumped. Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks Jim

Answer
IS or HAS the CHECK ENGINE light ever illuminated on the dash ?.

If it has NOT the most likely cause is a faulty computer of which you will need to replace the catalytic converter and the computer PROVIDED the check engine light has not illuminated and there are NO codes in the computers.
