Cadillac Repair: 1988 Eldorado Will Not Shift Out of 1st Gear, cadillac eldorado, internal faults

Question
I own a 1988 Cadillac Eldorado with a 4.5L engine, overdrive transmission and it will not shift out of 1st gear.  I have checked the fluid and it is clean, full, and does not have a burnt smell.

I recently supported the front on jack stands to see if removing the vehicle load would aid it shift into second gear and the results were the same.  Any help or information you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Luther

Answer
OK, You could have a problem with the:

Throttle valve linkage to the throttle body .

A problem in the govenor.

A problem in the Accumulator.

A stuck valve in the valve body.

Or any number of internal faults.

I can e-mail you several pictures showing you how the Throttle valve linkage should be attached and adjusted as it just may need to be adjusted.

If you are mechanicaly inclined or know of someone who is,  You will need picture locations of the components within the system that is possibly causing you problem of which can't be done on this website which only allows one picture. I do not have a website so you will have to e-mail: onlineautohelp@msn.com in order to obtain the information.
