Cadillac Repair: Cadillic 6.0 engine repair, quick responce, common sence

Question
QUESTION: Hello,  The car is a 1981 Eldorado with a 6.0 fuel injected V8/51,000 mi. The problem is when its cold it starts easily. If its hot and I shut it down then restart within 10 or 15 min.- no problem. If I wait over half an hour it takes 4 or 5 trys before it will finally catch-choke-stumble then take off. Usually each time it will crank over 4 or 5 times, kick the starter out like it started but then all the dash lites come back on and I have to try again until, like I said,it will finally choke-cough after 4 or 5 trys and take off. I have found that if I prop the hood up so air can circulate it will start like it should. Common sence tells me it is a heat generated problem-maybe vapor lock? HELP!!   Thanks, Chuck

ANSWER: My first thought would be the ignition control module in the distributor is heat sensitive.

QUESTION: Hi, Thanks for the quick responce. I had the distributor and coil replaced this past July and the problem existed before then. What else can I look for? Thanks, Chuck

Answer
There IS a possibility that you are getting air pockets in the fuel line on the engine.

Next time you know you are going to have this problem, Turn the ignition key to the ON position ONLY , Do NOT try nand start the engine and listen to hear if the fuel pump is running for 2 seconds and then stopping. If it IS, Turn the ignitiion OFF and wait 10 seconds and then repeat the key ON sequence twice more and then see if the engine starts easier. Listen each time you cycle the ignition key to hear the fuel pump run for 2 seconds.
