Cadillac Repair: ECC, electronic climate control, freak thing

I bought a 1988 Coupe DeVille 4.5L in late Sept 07. Once or twice back then my Electronic Climate Control and Fuel data display had what looked like a "C" on the display. They weren't rounded like we would write a "c" but rather 3 lines perpendicular to each other forming a squared off "c". The ECC and Fuel display would be inoperable and unresponsive when this happened. Once the cool weather hit it never happened again, so I shrugged it off as a freak thing. But now that the warmer weather has arrived it is happening again. It seems to happen when the temp in the car gets warm like after sitting in the sun. Any idea as to what the problem is?
