Cadillac Repair: trunk motor, factory shop manuals, confuseing

Question
I just was wondering about this trunk motor. We put a new motor in, now the motor works but the trunk still will not close.  Are there guides that I could look at to see if all the pieces are in right and everything is put together how it should be?

Answer
Hi Judy,

Your question is kind of confuseing. If you ment that the trunk lid latches and the motor goes down but then goes back up again and keeps cycling then that is the job of the pulldown motor switch and it could be bad. If the motor wasn't adjusted up high enough then the switch can't close.

If adjusting the motor up doesn't do the trick then call your local library and see if they have any Cadillac factory shop manuals. Just about any model will do from '82 to present except the Cimmarron because they might not have used the motor. Some Buick and Oldsmobiles also have the motors so if you have a bigger public library you should be in luck. They all bolt together and adjust basically the same. Otherwise go to alldata.com and subscribe to the shop manual for your year make and model and then you can get the same info your mechanic has right on your computor.

     Hopefully that will help. Bill
