Cadillac Repair: 98 Deville heater motor, lh side, flex joint

Question
I can't get the heater motor out--hits motor. What has to be done to tilt engine forward? I already took the two engine struts loose that are toward front of car.
Thanks!

Answer
HI Vettepiper,

One way to move the engine would be to support the car body with jackstands. Then place your floor jack under the front part of the engine cradle. Remove the LF cradle bolt and lower the jack to get clearance. If not enough then loosen the RF cradle bolt 3-4 turns. Just watch that the engine doesn't go into the fans and if you lower too far the steering column flex joint could sepparate.

The book suggests that you remove the cross brace, ignition module bolts and connectors and position the harness out of the way, remove #5 & #7 plug wires from the coil, remove the purge solinoid fro the bracket...sometimes the bracket will need to be bent or removed. Then remove the 3 screws from the inertia plate and remove the plate. Reinstall 2 screws. Remove the connector and 5 screws that hold the motor. Turn the motor so the long flat in the upper LH side is facing down and the motor should come out.

Make sure to remove the inertial plate from the new motor and reinstall 2 screws before installing the new motor. Hopefully one of those ways helps. Bill
