Cadillac Repair: 97 STS - remote door, trunk opener, antenna wire, fobs

Question
I have replaced batteries in both FOBs but I still need to be within a foot or two for them to work. Is there something I can replace in the receiver or do I need new FOB transmitters? Thanks

Answer
Hi Gene,

It really depends if this is a Cadillac system or an aftermarket remote system. With the aftermarket units the antenna wire can get jarred and move to a differant location and change the range. With the Factory units they had a problem when they first came out that you eithor needed to replace the module or install a shield under the module per a bulletin.

Having replaced both batteries and that hasn't improved the range was a good first step but the next one will take alittle more troubleshooting. If this is an aftermarket unit it just might be going bad and need to be replaced. Sorry I can't be anymore help than that. Bill
