QuestionMy '83 El Dorado 4.1L Gas has been dying on me.
Seems to be only when warm. Problem getting progressively more frequent. Never in full acceleration, but not always when descelerating the car dies. Starts again like a champ but dies immediately. Let it sit for 30 minutes and it is fine.
It is becoming more frequent. The other day it did it on the first start of the day, died right away- never happened before when cold. It has been damp here for the past couple months while the problem has been occuring.
It is at the shop now and they say it has good fuel pressure and are 80% sure it is the electronic control module for the distributor. This is one of the first electronic fuel injection systems... PLEASE, any input you have is GREATLY apprecitated :-)
AnswerThey need to check the computer for CODES via:
1. Ignition ON. Engine OFF.
2. Simultaneously push and hold the OFF and WARMER buttons on the climate control panel for 3 seconds and release them. Tell me evry LETTER and NUMBER that displays, EXACTLY EVERYTHING that displays in the EXACT order in which they display as if you were video-taping them on the display and it will stop at .7.0.
Turn OFF ignition.
