Land Rover Repair: 2002 Land Rover Engine Stalls after going about 5 to 10 miles down the road, coolant temperature sensor, blessed night

Question
Hi Mike:  My name is Charmagne and my husband is Jack we just purchased a 2002 Land Rover it was running great and last night we went to go somewhere and it wouldn't start  So I thought he locked it down with the key security  So I did the key thing three times and it started right up!  We started going down the road and went about 7 miles and it just died.  Jack checked out things under the hood all was good no lights came on or the service engine light  It sat for about 30 mins and started again. We started going again went about 5 to 8 miles and it stop running again; again we set for about 30 mins or so and it started running again this happened one more time and my husband had it towed in.  This morning  I go out and it started right up. However I am afraid to drive it because it might happen again.  My husband jack thinks it might be a modular or senor or coil pack.  Do you have any suggestions.  I have been on this site many times and just have became a member and I see you are one of the best of the best with Land Rover advice.  Can you help us out.  Have a very blessed night.  Our email is  or our phone number is (423) 496-5548.  Blessings.

Answer
Hi Charmagne,

sorry Mike's not here.  This is John.

Sounds like a sensor from here...could be fuel temperature sensor or perhaps the coolant temperature sensor.

Could also be fuel pump related - can't maintain proper pressure so it 'floods' engine.  Sitting for awhile then restart could be due to this.  Fuel rail pressure testing could reveal this problem.

Best to have a LR testbook diagnostic to find the cause.

Best of luck with this,
JohnMc

NB:  Charmagne, you seem like a trusting person ... please never leave your telephone number online.  ever.  John.
