Cadillac Repair: 1993 Cadillac Sixty Special Air Level Control, air leaks, little old lady

Question
I recently purchased this car from a little old lady who was unable to give me any maintenance records or information. This car has Air Level control. I found fuse #12 blown, replaced fuse, compressor started, no change in height of rear end after 2-3 minutes. Air is coming out of compressor - put finger on output, cant stop it. I hear no leaks though air tube disappears into wiring harness. I disconnected 4" arm on height sensor, lowered it and compressor stopped but I hear no exhaust. I raised it and after about 30 seconds the compressor started. So I believe height sensor is OK.  I read in one of your other answers that compressor should "EVENTUALLY reach 80 PSI".
Can you give me a rough idea of "eventually" - 5 min? 30 min?
If there are leaks, where is most common place for leak to occur?
Should I hear exhaust on lowering? At or near compressor?
Is there a delay (30 seconds?) before height sensor triggers exhaust?
If I disconnect air hose at compressor, should rear end drop? Or is there a check valve?
Do you have any idea why Cadillac would design this system to run with ignition off?
Do you see any harm in rewiring with in-line fuse to run only when Key on?
Thanks for your help, ken

Answer
Check your air lines going to the shocks/struts for air leaks and or an air leak in one of the shiocks.

Yes, There is approx a minute or two of delay between filling and exhausting the air.

Do NOT re-wire the system. It works perfectly OK when it is working correctly.
