Cadillac Repair: 1992 Elderado Cadillac 4.9L, minimal knowledge, reset button

Question
The car has been running fine. Engine sounds great. Two days ago, I went to start up the engine when leaving the grocery store and it didn't want to start. Took me three times. The following morning, it wouldn't start at all unless you gunned the gas and held it. As soon as I took my foot of the gas, it would shut down. I tried again today and it started right up. I read an answer you gave concerning another issue but same yr and tried your suggestion. I came up with the following codes for ECM, in the following order: E013, E030, E044, E048, E091, E098 & I022. I really need my car but can't afford to put it in the shop and hope they get it right the first time or that they don't try and take me for a ride since I have minimal knowledge pertaining to cars. I also got a message on my display for the first time after receiving the readings above-it read "set timing". Please help!

Thank you,
Janie

Answer
The first thing you need to do is CLEAR (erase) ALL the codes from the computer and see which ones return via:

1. Ignition switch in the ON position. Engine OFF.

2. Redisplay your codes again and when you see ECM?

3. Push and release the HI button and you will see ECM DATA?

4. Keep pushing and releasing the LO button until you see ECM CLEAR CODES?

5. Push and release the HI button and wait 3 seconds and then keep pushing and releasing the OFF button until you see ECM?

6. Push and release the LO button until you see IPC?

7. Push and release the HI button and you will see IPC DATA?

4. Keep pushing and releasing the LO button until you see IPC CLEAR CODES?

5. Push and release the HI button  and you will see IPC CODES CLEAR and wait 3 seconds and then press and release the RESET button on the drivers information center.

6. Turn OFF ignition.

Start the car if possible and see if any of the codes return as CURRENT (C) or HISTORY (H) codes which will display as EACH CODE displays.

I need to know which codes are CURRENT and HISTORY.

If you have cleared the codes correctly you will have NO HISTORY (H) codes displayed. ONLY CURRENT (C) codes will display.

Tell me EXACTLY what all displays on the display in the EXACT order in which they display.
