Cadillac Repair: 78-79 Cadillac Deville, hollander interchange manual, hemmings motor news

Question
Can I put an axle out of a 92 Buick Roadmaster into a 78 Cadillac Deville or Seville?

Answer
Hi Branden,

I don't have access to parts interchange manuals so I couldn't be able to tell you for sure. However if you are buying the axle from a salvage yard/auto recycler they should have a Hollander Interchange Manual that might be able to say.

Otherwise my inclination is to say that it might fit the Deville but not the Seville. If you had the differentials available you could take some measurements to see if it would bolt up. Some problems might be that the brake wheel cylinders might be a differant size and cause braking issues if they weren't changed over. Also the flange where the driveshaft u-joint bolts up could be a differant design and the flange might not change over.

If you are haveing a problem finding the axle try the Hemmings Motor News magazine and in there they have older/classic Caddy parts. Otherwise junkyarddog.com is a site that yards from across the country use and there is a possability that the axle you need is close by. All you need to do is enter the vehicle year, make, model and what part you are looking for and with-in 2 hours you could have 6 e-mails with the axle you are looking for along with prices that would include shipping if need be.

Sorry I can't be anymore help than that but hopefully you can find the axle you need. Bill
