Cadillac Repair: trouble code po85, caddi, trouble code

i have a 1995 caddi sedan deville 4.9l which is producing code of po85. i understand that this code means idle throttle angle too high. can you elaborate on this and can you tell me how to fix this problem? any help would be appreciated. thanks james

Hi James,

       It could be as simple as takeing some carburator or throttlebody cleaner spray and open the throttle plates wide open with the air filter houseing off and the engine off and spray inside to remove the carbon build-up from both bores. If there is alot of carbon build-up then use an old toothbrush or soft cloth with your finger to loosen the carbon and then respraying so the bore is clean. Then when you go to start the engine hold the accellerator pedal to the floor until it starts because depending how much spray you use the engine might start hard and opening the throttle gives it the most air possable and once it starts take your foot off right away so the idle comes down.

      Otherwise you will need to figure out if the ISC motor is misadjusted so the throttle is open too far, the base idle is too high or the TPS is set too high.
