Cadillac Repair: 93 Fleetwood engine Timing, aldl connector, shop manuals

Question
In an other answer on engine timing you said to ground the "IC" bypass wire on the right side of the throttle body. I looked and the only 'single wire is a tan with black strip wire that isn't attached to any thing. Is this the wire? I also read in Chiltons to ground between the A & B terminals on the ALDL connector. I did that and it dosn't seem to put the engine in base timing mode.

Answer
Hi Robert,

Since you didn't give your engine size or say if your Fleetwood is front or rear drive I will give you both procedures.

With the FWD 4.9 Fleetwood you would need to ground A to B of the ALDL connector.

With the RWD Fleetwood Brougham you need to ground the Tan/Black stripe wire that isn't attached to anything after the engine is running and warmed up to operateing temperature. Set the timing and when you are done there might be a code to clear.

Those generic shop manuals like Chilton can be confuseing to sort through the information at times because they cover several model years and engine sizes but sounds like you are on track with the timing check now.
