Cadillac Repair: 2001 Cadillac DeVille starting problem, cadillac deville, speciallist

Question
Occasionally the car will not start when turning the key. There is no noise. The security light is on. Have tired using second key and still the car will not start. Eventually it will start afer jiggleling the gear shift and touching the brake pedal. The Cadillac agency was unable to diagnose the problem. The starting problem can happen after a short drive or in the garage in the morning. I don't want my wife stranded in some parking lot,

Answer
Hi David,

Intermittants are difficult to diagnose especially if they don't happen very often. You already did the first thing I would have suggested and that was try the other key. Since the key doesn't change anything the problem has to be with the car. The Caddy dealer needs to be given another try at this because without doing some testing on the car there is no way I can provide any assistance. It could be a loose wire or connector, defective or dirty contacts in the lock cylinder, broken wire comming from the lock cylinder or a temperature sensative module to name a few things. The dealer needs to have the car dropped off for the whole day so testing can be done. Also they have a tech line that can be called and something like this they probably have seen before and can give tests or checks to do. The service adviser may have given this to an inexperrianced electrical tech so when you return ask that it be looked at by the electrical speciallist. If you live in a bigger city there should be other Caddy dealers you could try. But before you do call the Caddy zone office...that number should be in your owners manual...and see if they know what might be happening or can suggest a dealer that can get to the bottom of this problem.

Sorry I can't be anymore help than that. Bill
