Cadillac Repair: 89 Fleetwood Backfiring Issues?!?, rear quarter panel, throttle position sensor

Question -
I have an 1989 Fleetwood (4.9 FWD) and after taking it to three shops, we cannot diagnose the problem with my car.  I purchased this car from the original owner, who states the car ran just fine before it was parked for two years.  Since purchasing the car we have replaced the radiator, some weathered belts, starter, plugs and wires, fuel filter, and dropped the gas tank and cleaned it out.

After running like a champ for the first 5 miles that we drive it, it suddenly starts bogging down, sputtering, and eventually backfiring louder than anything you've ever heard and cutting off.  It backfired hard enough to blow the weld off of our muffler and left a hole in the side of it, and at the same time it also caused the trim on the rear quarter panel to be blown off.  PLEASE help---do you think it could possibly be a stopped up catalytic converter?!?  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Answer -
Could be a restriction in the exhaust and or a timing issue.

Are you getting a CHECK ENGINE light ?.

Thanks for responding so quickly to my post.  Yes, I am getting a check engine light, as well as a service engine soon light.  If the catalytic converter was bolt-on, we were just going to take it off and check it out.  Of course, it wouldn't happen to be that easy, so now we're trying to decide if it's even a possibility before going through all the trouble.  Here are the codes that we are receiving:

E22
E23
E28
E52
E53

Does this help at all?

Hello,

PICTURES are NOT allowed on the ALL EXPERTS WEBSITE and I am ONLY an uncompensated volunteer. I have nothing to do with the operation of the ALL EXPERTS website.

Your question is going to involve substantial work for me to look up diagnostic procedures for you to perform with pictures of locations of various parts and some diagnostic tests for you to do with your vehicle.
